“Quinta de Sant’Ana” - The Quinta

Quinta de Sant’Ana is situated in Gradil, near Mafra, at the heart of the ‘Estremadura’– the region that traditionally supplied Lisbon with fresh fruit, wine, vegetables, milk and meat. It is an historic estate, directly bordering the 1187-hectare ‘Tapada de Mafra’ – the former hunting estate of the Portuguese kings, today a wildlife park and nature reserve.

Quinta de Sant’Ana is divided into 9 hectares of vineyards, 20 hectares of woodland and 12 hectares of orchards and paddocks. Winemaking is our principal activity.

The family’s love of the land leads to its sympathetic management and the preservation of native plants. Besides winemaking, they have planted well over a thousand trees, ranging from stone pines, cork oaks and cypresses to olive, lemon, peach and walnut trees.

The rich flora of wildflowers, herbs and grasses, inhabited by countless insects and small animals, is the healthy foundation for the wine. Their respect for all life on the Quinta harmoniously blurs the boundaries between the “wild” and the “cultivated”.
